Swallowing

Difficulties in swallowing can be a life threatening condition. In infants and children swallowing difficulties may be associated with excessive drooling, tongue weakness, dental and other structural issues and/or sensory processing deficits. In adults, swallowing difficulties are common after brain injuries (motor vehicle accidents, stroke, etc.). They may present with pain while swallowing, having sensations of food getting stuck in the throat or chest, coughing or gagging, etc.
