Neurological Disorders

After a stroke or other traumatic brain injury, a person may present with language difficulties (known as aphasia), speech difficulties associated with motor planning (known as apraxia) and/or weakness of the facial muscles (known as dysarthria) which may affect the intelligibility of their speech. In such cases it is important to assess and start intervention as soon as the person in clinically stable as the most progress is seen within the first few months after the incident.
