Auditory processing

This refers to the very important process of making sense of what we hear. Some of the skills included in this area are discrimination (hearing the difference between sounds and words), closure (filling in missing gaps of messages heard), memory, analysis (breaking words up into syllables and sounds), and synthesis (putting syllables and/or sounds together to form words). Auditory processing plays a crucial role in not only the development of language, but also in the development of good reading and writing skills.
